Established in 1790 by John Ross, Balblair uses its own Ault Dearg burn till this day for making whisky. Balblair has one of the oldest archives in whisky distilling dated January 1800.
Balblair whisky is bottled in vintages i.e. the year in which the whisky was laid down. The bottle design is inspired by the nearby Pictish stone Clach Biorach which is thought to be 4000 year old. The 1989 vintage won the Gold Medal and was judged ‘Best in Class’ @ International Wines & Spirits Competition and recommended by Ian Buxton in 101 Whiskies to try before you die.
